A product of UT El Paso, he is San Antonio’s Ambassador of Good Will and has helped to raise over 100 million dollars for charities and schools in the last 20+ years. He was recently inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame and is included in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as one of the "Top 100 Radio Personalities of All-Time.
The City of San Antonio named The Sonny Melendrez Community Center to honor his tireless work with disadvantaged youth, including over 1,400 school presentations in the Alamo City alone. It is estimated that he has helped to raise over 100 million dollars for charities and causes in the last 25 years. He created SonnyRadio.com as a multi-media family-friendly place on the web presenting positive features designed to make over 40,000 world-wide daily visitors "feel better about being alive."
